Working Principle

Screening & Equalization – Raw sewage passes through a bar screen to remove debris and enters an equalization tank to balance flow and load variations.

Biological Treatment with Carrier Media – Aeration tanks contain moving carrier media providing large surface area for biofilm growth. Microorganisms on the media degrade organic matter (BOD/COD).

Secondary Clarification – Suspended solids are separated in a clarifier. The clarified water is then disinfected.

Disinfection (Optional) – UV or chlorination ensures pathogen-free water suitable for reuse.

Sludge Handling – Excess sludge is collected and treated separately for safe disposal or reuse.

 Working Principle

The MBR process combines two core treatment stages:

Biological Treatment (Activated Sludge Process)

Raw sewage enters the equalization tank and then flows into the aeration tank, where microorganisms degrade organic pollutants such as BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand).

Membrane Filtration

Instead of a conventional secondary clarifier, the system uses submerged ultrafiltration membranes (0.1–0.4 micron pore size). These membranes physically separate treated water from suspended solids, bacteria, and pathogens.
